Today’s Announcement – September 9, 2014


Beta Club members:  It’s time to renew your membership.  Your dues of $10 need to be paid to your grade sponsor by Sept. 11, which is also our first meeting. 10th grade – Mrs. Akiona, 11th grade – Mrs. Gober, and 12th grade – Mrs. Fox.

Come and support the undefeated Lady Mustang soccer team in their first district game away at Bradley at 5:30.

9th grade students, your permission slip for the Career Fair is due this Friday!  Don’t miss out on a great opportunity… Turn in your permission slip to your math teacher by Friday!

If you are interested in riding the pep bus to the football game this Friday at Rhea County please see Ms. Pickens in CL5.

Try outs for A Christmas Carol are next week!  See Mrs. Wright or look on our Twitter account (@WVHSDramaClub).  You have to have a prepared performance for tryouts so be sure you know the rules.

On Thursday, September 11th, WV will be accepting donations for WOOP-FM’s radio-thon to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Association research. Look for the bucket in the cafeteria, donate your loose change for a good cause and let’s beat Bradley and Cleveland!

Students … the first FBLA meeting will be today during CCRT in the Media Center.  Bring applications and dues if you have not turned them in yet.  For those who still need to pick up their applications can do so at the meeting.  For questions please see any Officer, Mr. Bryan, or Ms. Brady.  Future Business Leaders of America is open to any student who has had at least 1 business class anytime during high school or will have this year.  Everyone is welcome!

Pink Ribbon bowl t-shirts are on sale now in MCLA3, Ms. Brady’s room, and in the cafeteria at lunch.  Short sleeve are$10 and long sleeve are$15.  Orders will be taken through September 15th.  Order yours today 🙂

Any junior or senior boy interested in being a Powder Puff Cheerleader, please sign up with Ms. Miles in CL6.  There is a $10 fee for the required t-shirt and mandatory practices after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays til 5:00.  First practice and deadline to sign up is today.

11th grade students, remember to return your Job Shadowing applications to Guidance by 3:00pm on Wednesday, September 10.

Want to have some fun during CCRT?  Then come and play Cribbage-Cribbage is a card game from the 1700’s that requires strategy to be victorious and only takes about 20 minutes to play.  Our first club meeting is today in Conference Room B in the Main Office.  Please see Mr. Mehling in G106 for a CCRT pass.  No prior experience necessary…

The Chamber of Commerce Leadership students are sponsoring a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity.  STARS in the Valley, a teacher superlative show will be held on Sept. 12 during Activity period.  Cost is $2.00 and tickets will go on sale today.  Students will come around during CCRT to sell tickets, you can purchase them during lunch, or purchase them in Guidance.  Help support Habitat for Humanity and help Walker Valley raise the most money.

Seniors, picture retakes will be September 16th.  See Mrs. Gober in G110 for a pass to get your picture taken.  You will not be allowed out of class without a pass.

Hey Drama Club members!  Would you like to be a princess?  How about a cowpea?  The Charleston Cowpea Festival needs volunteers and has asked us to help.  If you can volunteer an hour or two at the festival on September 13, please see Mrs. Wright in CL3 as soon as possible!

Any student that would like to obtain service hours for Tennessee Scholars or Circle of Champions may do so on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Cowpea Festival.  You can check the board outside of Guidance for the phone number to call or stop by Guidance for more information.

Attention 10th and 11th grade students.  The PSAT will be given on October 15.  If you are interested in taking the test, the cost is $15.00 and you will need to sign up (with payment) in the Guidance office by Sept. 17.  First block teachers should have more information posted in their classroom if you are interested or you may stop by Guidance to see Ms. McClanahan or Mrs. Akiona.
