Today’s Announcements – November 11, 2014


The Junior Civitan club is collecting soft drink tabs to support our local Ronald McDonald House at Chattanooga.  There is a collection can in the main office.  Please help us support families of children undergoing treatment at the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.

Students if you are attending the Veterans Day lunch, please report to the band room at the end of this block.

Attention boys ages 14-18, if you are interested in playing on a traveling basketball team at the Boys and Girls Club, tryouts are Monday, November 17 at 5:00pm at the Boys and Girls Club on Third Street.

FFA Parli Pro practice is Thursday during CCRT in CT105.

World Language Club members: please remember to turn in your field trip forms and $$ to Mrs. Freeman by THIS Wednesday!

Today’s club meetings are:  Cribbage Club-CRB, TSA-CT104, LIFE group-FCR, FBLA-MCLA2(different location than usual), Sugar Babies-nurses’ office, Future Teachers of America-G115, and FCCLA-Auditorium.

FBLA Club members need to turn in their field trip forms by Wednesday to Mr Bryan.

Key Club meets next Tuesday, November 18 during CCRT in the Media Center. Ice cream provided -bring friends! See Mr. Hood in B211 for a pass.

This is just a reminder that the NHS Food Drive is continuing through Thursday (Nov. 13) of this week!  There has already been a good response, so if your turkey is still naked…and you want a free breakfast and sub-for-a-day…you need to get those turkeys feathered as soon as possible! Remember:  1 can/$.50 = 1 feather!  Don’t let your turkey be cold, get him dressed!

Opening and closing practice for FFA will be today during CCRT in CT105.

Any senior who wasn’t at the Balfour graduation meeting last week needs to pick up an informational packet in the main office or in Mrs. Fox’s room, G112.

Beta Club members:  Please continue to turn in toothpaste donations for Mercy Ministries and remember that Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes are due by November 21.

11th grade students that are going on the Job Shadowing trip.  Remember to meet with Ms. McClanahan at the bus ramp by 7:45 on Wednesday, Nov. 12.  You MUST check in with her prior to getting on the bus.  If you have a permission form that needed to be signed, please remember to bring that and also, please be in the appropriate dress code.  You will NOT be allowed to go if you fail to meet this criteria

The Blue and Gold wrestling match will be this Friday during activity schedule. Tickets will be on sale this week in the cafeteria or G113. Come support the wrestling team! 

Extra! Extra! Hear all about it!  The Drama Club is sponsoring a trip to the Fox Theater in Atlanta to see Newsies on January 25. Tickets are limited and will go fast!  Bring $65 (tickets + transportation) to Mrs. Wright in CL3 ASAP. First come; first served.  Hurry! 

Walker Valley is having a winter clothing drive during the month of November.  Bring your new or gently used coats, jackets, hats and other warm attire.  Drop off boxes are located in the main office, media center, gym, and cafeteria.  Items brought in will be taken to the Homeless Shelter.

Students and Faculty, make sure to bring diapers to the main office for the Diaper Love Drive.  Service hours will be given for each package of diapers donated.  See Key Club officers for details.

Students interested in joining Key Club can get an application from Mr. Hood in B211.  Applications and dues are due by November 14.

10th and 11th grade students interested in applying for Governor’s School this summer need to stop by Guidance to see Ms. McClanahan or Mrs. Akiona by Nov. 14.   Students may go to this website  to print off an application.  All of these have a postmark date of Dec. 6 and they must be returned to Guidance to be mailed from here by this date.  Areas available are:  School for Agricultural Science (postmark date 12/1/14), School for Business and IT Leadership, School for Computational Physics, School for Emerging Technologies, School for Engineering, School for Humanities, School for International Studies, School for Prospective Teachers, School for the Sciences, School for Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage, and School for Scientific Models and Data Analysis.
