The Junior Civitan Club is now accepting new members. This is a service club and the requirement to join is to have a willing heart to serve our community. Seniors, this is a great way to earn hours for TN Promise! Applications are available in the guidance office.
Cover2Cover Book Club will meet Tuesday, September 29th in the media center. Please come by the media center and pick up a pass prior to this first meeting.
Any student interested in joining the creative writing club needs to attend an after school meeting on Monday, September 14th in G111 from 3:30 to 4:30.
Homecoming tickets will be on sale Wednesday-Friday in the cafeteria during lunch. The dance is for Walker Valley students only.
Wednesday, September 9, we will be going to MAP. 10th and 11th grade MAP groups will be having guest speakers, so those grade levels will need to report to their MAP class, quickly take attendance, and then go to their designated locations together. 10th grade will be in the Auditorium, 11th grade will be in the cafeteria. Be sure to report to your class location FIRST for attendance.
Credit Recovery is now open in BU1 during CCRT. Students must go by BU1 BEFORE 3rd block to get a pass from Mr. Dillon.
Below are the activities scheduled for homecoming week, September 7-11: Wednesday, Sept. 9 is Tacky Tourist Day. Thursday, Sept. 10 is Throwback Thursday and there will be a Cornhole Tournament & BBQ (first 75 people) 5:30pm. Friday, Sept. 11 is USA/Blue and Gold Day with the Homecoming game at 7:30pm and the crowning of queen and king at half time. Saturday, Sept. 12 is the Homecoming dance (Sock Hop) 7-11pm in the gym. Advanced tickets: $8.00 *Must be a student to attend and must show school ID at the door. Tickets at the door: $10.00. You may dress for the theme but it is not required. There will be prizes for best dressed (in theme) and best socks. Each day, students may tweet a picture of themselves in their costumes with the hashtag #WVHC2015. At 3:00pm the student who’s photo has the most favorites will win a gift card (Chick-fil-a or Starbucks) for being the day’s “Best Dressed.”
FBLA applications are now available. Please pick them up from any business teacher or outside MCLA3. The applications need to be returned by September 18th in order to be eligible to attend the Fall Leadership Day trip.
For 10th and 11th grade students, the PSAT measures skills that are important for success in college-verbal reasoning, critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing. Taking the PSAT enables students to: get feedback about critical academic skills, enter scholarship competitions, seek information from colleges, and practice for SAT program tests. 11th grade students may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship by taking this test. 10th grade students who wish to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship as 11th graders are encouraged to take this test as 10th graders to help them prepare for the qualifying test next year. Students are recommended to have a 3.0 in order to sign up for the PSAT. The Test date is Wednesday, October 14 8:30 am at Walker Valley High School. The fee is $15.00 per student to be paid for by the student and checks are made out to Walker Valley High School.
Seniors, if you have not had your senior picture taken, please see Mrs. Gober by Friday, September 11.
Students, school pictures are on September 15. Your teachers will have a schedule to remind you when you are to go to the auditorium to have yours made. Teachers may come to have your pictures taken at 7:30 that day.
The informational meeting for the 2017 cross-cultural trip to Spain, Portugal and France has been moved to Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:00pm in the Media Center. Students who enroll by the end of September will be eligible for a $200 early enrollment discount. There are still a few spots left for the Amazon gift card raffle, but spots are filling up fast. See Mrs. Picchiottino in G212 to RSVP for this meeting and for information on how to enroll.
