Today’s Announcements – September 15, 2015


Anchor Club will meet on Thursday, September 24, during CCRT in the media center.  Please make sure you are wearing your lanyard with the Anchor Club sticker on the back to show you have paid your dues.

Friday is the deadline to sign up for the Oct. 24 ACT.  If you have any questions, please come by Guidance.

The first Beta Club meeting will be this Thursday, September 17 during CCRT in the auditorium.  If you received an invitation to join this year and plan on doing so, you are welcome to attend as well.

Beta Club members need to turn in their $10 yearly dues to their grade sponsor by Sept. 25.  If you received an invitation to join the club, you also have until Sept. 25 to turn in dues and the application.  If you are new to Walker Valley this year or are a freshmen who did not attend OMS last year and you think you qualify for membership, please see Mrs. Fox in room G112.

If you are a member of NEHS, please pay your yearly dues of $10 to Mrs. Wielfaert in B111 by Thursday, Sept. 17th.  Please bring your report card with your English class final average from 2014-15.  If you did not complete your hours last year, you will need to complete the remaining hours before you start counting this year’s service hours.  If you have any questions, come to B111 during CCRT on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of this week.

If you are interested in joining NEHS, please bring a completed application and a copy of your transcript to B111 by Thursday, Sept. 17th.  Applications are available in the box outside B111.

Juniors, if you missed the meeting regarding class rings, you may pick up a packet in the main office.  Balfour will be back on campus Tuesday, September, 15 from 4:30-7:00pm and again Wednesday, September 16 during lunch for you to place orders.

Cover2Cover Book Club will meet Tuesday, September 29th in the media center.  Please come by the media center and pick up a pass prior to this first meeting.

Credit Recovery is now open in BU1 during CCRT.  Students must go by BU1 BEFORE 3rd block to get a pass from Mr. Dillon.

FBLA applications are now available.  Please pick them up from any business teacher or outside MCLA3.  The applications need to be returned by September 18th in order to be eligible to attend the Fall Leadership Day trip.

For 10th and 11th grade students, the PSAT measures skills that are important for success in college-verbal reasoning, critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing.  Taking the PSAT enables students to: get feedback about critical academic skills, enter scholarship competitions, seek information from colleges, and practice for SAT program tests.  11th grade students may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship by taking this test.  10th grade students who wish to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship as 11th graders are encouraged to take this test as 10th graders to help them prepare for the qualifying test next year.  Students are recommended to have a 3.0 in order to sign up for the PSAT.  The Test date is Wednesday, October 14  8:30 am at Walker Valley High School.  The fee is $15.00 per student to be paid for by the student and checks are made out to Walker Valley High School.

The informational meeting for the 2017 cross-cultural trip to Spain, Portugal and France has been moved to Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:00pm in the Media Center. Students who enroll by the end of September will be eligible for a $200 early enrollment discount. There are still a few spots left for the Amazon gift card raffle, but spots are filling up fast. See Mrs. Picchiottino in G212 to RSVP for this meeting and for information on how to enroll.
