Today’s Announcements – September 23, 2015


Attention all FBLA members new and old…. Field trip forms and fees are due on Wednesday, September 22nd in order to attend the Leadership Field trip on Tuesday, September 29th.  Forms and fees can be turned in to Ms. Brady in MCLA 3.

Students who were unable to attend the informational meeting for the trip to Spain, Portugal and France but are still interested in enrolling need to see Mrs. Picchiottino in G212 to pick up an itinerary and enrollment application. Don’t forget that September 30th is the deadline to receive a $200 early enrollment discount. Students must sign up prior to that date to be eligible. The winner of the $100 Amazon gift card will be announced in early October.

Tryouts for Drama Club’s production of It’s a Wonderful Life will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, September 28, 29 and October 30.  We need lots of people for this production so come by Mrs. Wright’s room, CL3, to pick up an audition form.  You do not have to try out every day.  Pick one, but make sure you have the information from Mrs. Wright before you show up.

Congratulations to the following students who made the Tennessee All East Honor Choir:  Alison Dyer, Kayla Black, Karis Mitchell, Paige Pridmore, Madi Johnson, Hannah Talley, Carter Wine, Conner Ferguson, Amber Fillipone, and Brandon Akiona (alternate).

Oceanography Club will have our first meeting this year on Thursday the 24th. We will be meeting in the auditorium during CCRT. Passes for future meetings will be handed out at this meeting.  This meeting is open to new members.

Beta Club members: if you were unable to attend our first meeting, go by one of the sponsors’ rooms to get an information sheet.

Students can now sign up for the hiking club with Coach Shrestha in G115 or Ms. Tipton in G208. The cost is $5 per student. The first trip is Oct. 18-19 to Blood Mountain. Space is limited. Get your sign up forms now.

“Pink Out” day is Thursday September 24.  Everyone wear your Volley for a Cure t-shirts and come out and support the Lady Mustangs as they play Ooltewah in volleyball.

10th grade students: there are 20 seats still available for the Make It Happen field trip. Turn in permission slips to guidance by Friday, September 25!

College Application Week is coming up!  The week of September 28-October 2, we will be having an emphasis on college here at Walker Valley!  More details to come soon.

On Thursday September 24th we will hold our first World Language Club meeting during CCRT in the auditorium. Please use the 2015/2016 application as a hall pass for this first meeting. You must download and print this application out from the WV website! See you there! Au revoir. Adios. Auf Wiedersehen.

TN Promise Scholarship Saturday will be held at Tennessee College of Applied Technology on Saturday, September 26th from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Anchor Club will meet on Thursday, September 24, during CCRT in the media center.  Please make sure you are wearing your lanyard with the Anchor Club sticker on the back to show you have paid your dues.

Beta Club members need to turn in their $10 yearly dues to their grade sponsor by Sept. 25.  If you received an invitation to join the club, you also have until Sept. 25 to turn in dues and the application.  If you are new to Walker Valley this year or are a freshmen who did not attend OMS last year and you think you qualify for membership, please see Mrs. Fox in room G112.

Cover2Cover Book Club will meet Tuesday, September 29th in the media center.  Please come by the media center and pick up a pass prior to this first meeting.

For 10th and 11th grade students, the PSAT measures skills that are important for success in college-verbal reasoning, critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing.  Taking the PSAT enables students to: get feedback about critical academic skills, enter scholarship competitions, seek information from colleges, and practice for SAT program tests.  11th grade students may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship by taking this test.  10th grade students who wish to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship as 11th graders are encouraged to take this test as 10th graders to help them prepare for the qualifying test next year.  Students are recommended to have a 3.0 in order to sign up for the PSAT.  The Test date is Wednesday, October 14  8:30 am at Walker Valley High School.  The fee is $15.00 per student to be paid for by the student and checks are made out to Walker Valley High School.
