The Bradley County Habitat for Humanity is holding a fundraiser called the Challenges for Charity. Challenges such as sleeping on the roof of the school or riding a tricycle all day will be done by your favorite teachers if their jar reaches 50 dollars. For every dollar you donate, you can vote for a challenge in the cafeteria during lunch. Although freshmen cannot vote during lunch, there will be an opportunity for them to vote in September during map.
Applications for Science National Honor are due to Mrs. Borden in G116 by Friday, September 23. Our first meeting will be on September 29. At that meeting we will discuss fees, service opportunities, officer elections and lecture/fieldtrip opportunities. If you have not met the requirements for admission you will be notified prior to that meeting.
If you are interested in joining Art Club there will be an informational meeting Friday, September 23 during MAP in room FA109. See Mrs. Russell for a pass to attend the first meeting.
Oceanography Club dues and references are due by Tuesday, September 20th. The first meeting will be Friday September 23rd in Mrs. Swafford’s room, B214. If you do not already have an application packet, it can be picked up in B214 ASAP. Returning members must pick up a half sheet outside B214 as well.
The Homecoming Dance is Saturday, September 24th from 7-10pm in the gym. Tickets are $8.00 and may be purchased in the cafeteria during lunch on Wednesday through Friday, September 21-23 or at the door on Saturday. The theme is MasquRAVE. If your date does not attend Walker Valley, he or she must be PRE-APPROVED. Please pick up a form from the Main Office. Date pre-approval forms are due Monday, September 19th.
Sign up for the Fall Camping Trip to Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina, Sunday, October 2nd– Monday, Octoer 3rd. The cost is $40. Sign up with Mrs. Shrestha (G115) or Mrs. Tipton (B206). Only the first 25 to sign up will be allowed to go.
Nominations for Homecoming Court will be THIS FRIDAY in MAP. TEACHERS: Nomination forms will be in be in your box by THURSDAY. Please return them to Miss Ball’s box or to G208. Voting for King and Queen will take place on MONDAY, Sept. 19th.
Thursday, September 22 will be the Homecoming Games (Class vs. Class) 4:00-6:00pm on the front lawn. There will be corn hole, volleyball, spike ball, etc. and BBQ will be served to the first 100 students.
Dress Up Days for Homecoming Week: Monday: Past vs. Future-dress up as your past self, your future self or join a past decade you wish you’d been part of! Tuesday: Tacky vs. Classy-Get tackier than a clown at the circus or dress in your finest attire as if you were meeting the Queen for high tea! Wednesday: Grow out your beard! Throw on your flannel! OR Grab your cowboy Lumberjacks vs. Western hat and wrangle a calf! Thursday: Heros vs. Villains-Pick your favorite hero or villain! Embody that character and battle their nemesis for the day! Friday: Class Wars-Each class shows up in their color to support the class, WV and our MUSTANGS! 9th- White 10th- Gray 11th- Gold 12th- Blue
Students, representatives with the Election Commission will be set up in the cafeteria on Tuesday, September 20 to to register students to vote. Students must be 18 years old by November 8 to register. You also need to know your social security number and have your school ID.
Attention 10th and 11th grade students, if you’re interested in applying for a Governor’s School this coming summer, applications are available at this time. There is a link to the Governor’s School applications on our school website. Please keep in mind that these applications are very detailed, and will need to be done ahead of time. Applications for the Arts Governor’s School are due on October 24, and all other Governor’s School applications are due on November 21. The deadline for completed applications to be turned in is 3:30 pm on those dates in the Counseling Center. Late applications will not be taken.

Students, if you are interested in the Cormetech Advanced Manufacturing Internships, please get an internship packet from the Mrs. Walker, Career Counselor, or see one of the Engineering/Advance Manufacturing teachers. One WVHS student will be selected to participate. It is a paid position and the student will work from 3:00-7:00 Monday-Friday with the potential to work extra hours. Students interested should have completed two classes in an advanced manufacturing focus area and be at least 17 years of age by October 17th.
Volunteers are needed for the “Let’s Talk About It” event at Charleston Park on October 15. This event is to raise awareness about domestic violence. The hours are 12noon to 9:00pm. If you are looking for service hours, please call Jennifer Riojas at 240-1455.
The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting the Walk to End Alzheimer’s event on Saturday, September 24th at the Cleveland Greenway. If you are interested in helping with this event and receiving service hours, contact Lauren Luckhart at firstname.lastname@example.org to volunteer. Volunteer roles will range from set-up of tents and displays, manning booths and assisting participants with registration, distribution of materials, t-shirts, medals, etc. and tear-down.
Returning Beta Club members: Please pay your $10 yearly dues to your grade sponsor through September 23. The grade sponsors are 10th-Mrs. Patterson in guidance, 11th-Mrs Gober in G110, and 12th-Mrs Fox in G112. If you are interested in becoming a new member of the Beta Club, please see the grade sponsor to pick up an application. Freshmen: If you went to middle school somewhere other than OMS and were in the Jr Beta Club, please see Mrs. Wielfaert in B111 for an application to WV’s club.
National Honor Society’s yearly dues are $10.00 and should be paid by September 30 to Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Everett, and Mrs. McChesney.
Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors: SGA is happy to announce that for the first time, you have the opportunity to paint your parking spot! If you would like to customize your parking spot, see Miss Ball in G208 for an application. The cost is $50 per spot. Your design and application must be submitted for approval by Sept. 19th. Painting days will be held Sept. 24th and Oct. 2nd.
Any senior that has not picked up an ACT retake voucher should see Ms. McClanahan in the Counseling Office before September 16. If you have trouble signing in, please come by to see Ms. McClanahan for assistance.
10th and 11th grade students that would like to take the PSAT should bring $16.00 to the Counseling Office by September 21st to sign up. There is a limited number of spots, so please sign up quickly. For more information on the PSAT, see your MAP teacher or Ms. McClanahan in the Counseling Office.
FBLA is now accepting membership applications. Students can pick up applications outside MCLA3. If you were a member last year in FBLA, you need to fill out a new membership form and turn into Ms. Brady in MCLA3. All forms and fees are due by Fall Break.
